Second Line
Parades
A New Orleans Wedding Tradition
Second-lines parades are a popular tradition among New Orleans weddings, symbolizing the beginning of a new life together. Newlyweds lead the second line with parasols in hand, dancing through the streets. The sounds of a local brass band follow along, letting everyone know the celebration has begun. Typically, the couple and grand marshal will lead the bridal party and guests from the ceremony to the reception, or from the reception to the next party at a famous local restaurant or bar.
